SOTTSASS is an olfactory voyage to the birthplace of the Memphis Movement, where creative sparks flew amidst the captivating ambiance of evenings in 1980s Milan. Imagine Bob Dylan's melodies in the background, the city's traffic humming outside, a softly lit cigarette, and rich discussions about the profound role of design in our lives. This fragrance aims to capture the very essence of those moments in Ettore Sottsass's Milan apartment. It's a blend of sophistication and allure, like the rich conversations that swirled in the air. SOTTSASS evokes the heady mix of creativity and contemplation that surrounded the birth of Memphis. The scent is a harmonious symphony of vibrant citrus and aromatic spices with woody and earthy undertones, mirroring the enigmatic aura of Sottsass's design philosophies. It's an invitation to embrace the Memphis Groups' revolutionary spirit and carry it with you throughout your evening adventures.

"It is important to realize that whatever we do or design has iconographic references, it comes from somewhere; any form is always metaphorical, never totally metaphysical; it is never a 'destiny' but always a fact with some kind of historical reference. To put an object on a base means to monumentalize it, to make everyone aware it exists."
- Ettore Sottsass

MARISSA ZAPPAS FOR LAUNCH 01: MEMPHIS

Marissa Zappas is a perfumer, scent designer, and poet whose ethereal and nostalgic fragrances blend fantasy, reality, the gothic, and the modern. Her approach to perfumery finds fuel in her background in anthropology, her admiration for avant-garde perfumes of the early twentieth century, and her collaborations with New York City artists.

Marissa believes that perfume – both creating and wearing it – conjures our past, present, and future selves. Her academic work explores the intersection of perfume’s history, attitudes towards death, and the history of cemetery construction. While completing her M.A. and ethnographic training, Marissa also worked at Givaudan and later became an apprentice to master perfumer Olivier Gillotin.

Marissa has lived and worked as a freelancer in New York since 2017 and is now represented by Agence Grace, the premier agency for independent perfumers in Paris.

LEONARD BESSEMER FOR LAUNCH 01: MEMPHIS

Objects for Objects is a Los Angeles based furniture brand founded in 2017 by Leonard Bessemer.  As a self-taught carpenter, Leonard got his start doing fabrication for artists in Berlin. Upon his return to California, he began doing full commercial and residential build-outs.  Using leftover materials from those jobs, he built his own designs that would become the furniture brand Objects for Objects.  The furniture is odd and playful, yet elegant. All of the pieces are built by hand, one at a time, in the studio or in collaboration with local craftsmen.

Objects for Objects has produced a limited edition collection for Urban Outfitters x Clever, shown at Collectible in Brussels,  and was awarded a spot on Sight Unseen’s 2019 American design Hot List. His work has been featured in Elle Decor, Architectural Digest, Domino, and Belle Magazine.

"My childhood was sharply affected by the presence of what is summarily called Nature; by the smells and colours of the seasons, by the noises of water, of the wind, of rocks crashing down the Dolomites...During my childhood I had a vast sensorial landscape. For me that experience of childhood and adolescence was decisive, leading me to think that the way you really interpret the world is mainly through your senses. Clearly, the senses are never pure, there is no pure sensoriality. Sensoriality in the moment it exists already has a form, a culture if you like."
